Dolphins of the Week

Week of June 7, 2026

Rylah Shelton, 9, is not only new to the Dolphins this summer, but new to competitive swimming entirely. She comes to practice every day eager to learn, and has quickly mastered the technique of all four strokes, having completed her first breaststroke event this week. She works hard every day with a big smile and a great attitude. Last week she recorded 3 personal best times -- including her first 25 fly -- and this week she did it again!  In addition to her first breaststroke race, she set personal records in both the 25 free and the 25 back. Now she is fully prepared for the IM.  Way to go Rylah!

Davis Bolt is already an experienced Dolphin at 12, now in his 8th year on the team. He is a role model of a dedicated swimmer, attending practice regularly and always swimming at or near the front of his lane. He is part of a group of close friends who love the sport and support each other, and just about every week Davis sets personal records. This week he did so in all of his events, starting with a new 50 free best and continuing with a drop in the 100 IM. He finished off a great meet with a new best by almost 3 seconds in the 50 fly. Keep up the great work, Davis -- we're counting on you!

Week of May 31, 2026

Sisters Nora and Louisa Wright, 9 and 8, came into this week's meet on a mission. Starting the season with great attitudes and hard work in their respective practices, they've both gradually improved their strokes and their speed. This week they showed off the results with six personal records between them! Nora dropped almost a second from her previous best in the 25 free, and then completed the 100 IM for the first time ever. Even so, she saved the best for last -- a 25 second drop in the 50 free! Not to be outdone, Louisa cut 0.61 herself in the 25 free, and then almost 3 seconds in the 25 breast, finishing with an amazing personal best by 20 seconds in the 50 free. Wow!  Keep up the great work, Nora and Louisa!

Ross Turner is 9 and in his second year on the Dolphin team. He has a great attitude in practice, and is usually the first swimmer to arrive early in the morning. He has focused on improving his technique throughout the season, and his three personal best times this week demonstrated the results. His 25 free produced a best time by 1.69 seconds to begin the meet. He followed that with a drop of over 4 seconds in the 50 free. Last, he finished the 25 back 0.2 second faster than ever before.  Next up, he's going to tackle that breaststroke kick.  You can do it, Ross!

Week of May 24, 2026

Addie Popat is 10 and on the way to a breakout season with the Dolphins. A hard worker in practice with a great attitude and focus on improving all of her strokes, she already recorded two personal records in the first week of the season. Then she topped herself with three more huge time drops this week.  The meet began for her with a 25 breast 11 seconds faster than her previous best. Not to be outdone, she followed that with a drop of nearly 14 seconds in the 50 free.  A new personal best by 1.27 in the 25 fly finished her individual events. The Ironman Award is the next thing to check off, along with lots of other accomplishments.  We're proud of you Addie!

Crawford Carpenter, who turned 8 years old today, celebrated the eve of his birthday in fine style.  A second year Dolphin, he flew through his individual events at a speed that definitely could have blown out lots of birthday candles. Competing in his first meet of the season, he got things started with a nice personal best by 2.7 seconds in the 25 free. Next up was an amazing best time by 21.75 seconds in the 50 free. Not finished yet, he recorded a blistering 25 back time, 8.24 seconds faster than ever before. Amazing job, Crawford! Happy Birthday!

Week of May 17, 2026

Lucie Snow, 8, helped to get the Dolphin season off to a very fast start this week. A hard worker who loves swimming and loves her team, she dropped an amazing amount of time in setting three personal records at the opening meet.  First came a personal best by 3.62 seconds in the 25 free. In the 50 free she improved by 6.33 seconds, and she finished up with another 3.56 second drop in the 25 backstroke. We are so excited to see the wonderful things she'll do this season.  Way to go Lucie!

Johnny Long is 9 and already one of the liveliest and most engaged swimmers in the 9-10 practices. He comes every day ready to both work hard and have a lot of fun with his friends. He listens carefully to his coaches and tries his hardest at all times. That effort paid off in our first meet as he notched three new personal bests. In the 25 free he dropped 2 sections from his previous record, and followed that up with a 3.44 second cut in the 50 free. Saving the best for last, his 25 back time was 4.15 seconds faster than he'd ever swum before. Great job Johnny!

Week of July 6, 2025

Lucy Horak, 10, had a marvelous and memorable season for the Dolphins this summer. During our dual meets and Divisionals she achieved 10 personal best times during her swims, and made it to Championships for the first time ever.  At that meet, she set yet another personal record by dropping a third of a second in the 25 breaststroke. At a home meet earlier in the season, she delivered the most soulful rendition of the national anthem that you will ever hear from a 10-year-old. Thank you for a wonderful season in many ways, Lucy!

Tanner Maxwell is 8 and already a three year veteran of the Dolphin team, and his third season was a fantastic one that ended on a high note. He qualified for Championships for the first time ever in two events, and took full advantage.  In the 25 backstroke he shaved 2.5 seconds off of his personal best time to get things started.  And shortly after that he cut almost 3 full seconds from his butterfly time.  Great things are ahead for him on the team. Amazing job, Tanner!

Week of June 29, 2025

Lucy Carter, 10, is wrapping up a very successful first year on the Dolphins. At Divisionals she did a terrific job, recording two personal best times.  She cut more than 2 seconds from her previous best in the 100 IM, and two-thirds of a second in the 25 breaststroke. She has been dedicated all season long, quietly working hard and listening to her coaches at every practice. That dedication was on display during this holiday week of optional practices. Lucy attended every day and both worked hard and enjoyed the fun sets and relays. Thank you for a great season Lucy!

Brooks Yurkovich is 5 and a great story for our team already. He began the season as a Guppy and did a wonderful job, learning his strokes and showing lots of team spirit. He did so well that his coaches promoted him to the "big" Dolphin team for our last dual meet -- in which he did a fantastic job in the 25 free. When the invitation went out to the whole team to join optional holiday week practices, he enthusiastically continued his Dolphin season, attending each practice during the week. His dedication promises many great years to come as a Dolphin. Great job Brooks!

Week of June 22, 2025

Emme Blume, 8, was indisputably one of the stars of the Divisionals meet for the Dolphins -- leading the 10&unders in an exciting second day comeback to win the Metcalf Cup. She had a great meet overall, but the highlight was an amazing 100 IM early in the meet, in which she dropped almost 5 seconds from her personal best time on the way to winning the event out the the #3 seed. Her swim not only helped to close the point gap, but rallied the whole team. It was a special moment to be long remembered. Later in the meet, she also cut almost 2 seconds from her personal record in the 25 butterfly and took 2nd place. She also placed 3rd in the 25 free and won the high point award for her age group. We are excited for more excellence in the pool from Emme for many years to come.  Fantastic job, Emme!

Owen Foldenauer is 8 and already a Devenger veteran in his fifth year on the team. It would be almost impossible to top his performance in Divisionals, where he notched new personal best times in all of his events.  He began with an unbelievable 26 second drop in his 100 IM, coming out of nowhere to take 6th place overall. Next he cut almost 3 seconds from his best in the 25 breast, taking 2nd place overall. Finally, he set a new personal best by 6.5 seconds in the 50 free to bring 5th place points to the Dolphins. He was a key contributor to the team's comeback on the second day to win the White Division Metcalf Cup, earning high point honors along the way.  The future is very bright!  Amazing job, Owen!

Mary Wright, 12, is new to the Dolphins this year and we are sure glad to have her on the team!  She quietly goes about the business of improving every day in practice, working hard on both technique and speed. During a very long day under the boiling sun at Divisionals, she was at her best. Three swims -- three personal best times.  In the 50 free she cut .07 from her previous best. Then took off almost 2 seconds in the 50 breast.  Finishing strong, she cut .36 in the 50 back.  With versatility as her hallmark, Mary is set to follow her debut season with great swims for years to come.  Great job Mary!

Sawyer Edwards, 12, has been recording excellent swims for our team for 8 years now. He works as hard as anyone else on the team to improve, and the results show it.  Over the course of the season, he recorded 13 personal best times in his 18 swims.  Three of those came during Divisionals to help the Dolphins claim the Metcalf Cup for White Division.  His stellar day began when he cut over half a second in his specialty, the 50 breast. He then continued to cut over 3.5 seconds in the 50 back, and then another .12 in the 50 fly. It was a memorable performance under pressure.  Keep up the great work Sawyer!

Week of June 15, 2025

Rose Edwards, 8, already feels like a veteran Dolphin in her fifth year on the team. She never missed practice or meets, and works hard all the time. Steady improvement is her calling card, with personal bests accomplished in just about every meet. She was a star in our final dual meet of this season, setting a new personal best in all of her individual events. A drop of 2/3 of a second in the 25 free started her night. A new best in 25 breaststroke followed. Saving the best for last, she shaved almost 7 seconds from her 50 freestyle best time. With Divisionals coming up, we are looking forward to even more best times.  Wonderful job, Rose!

Vann Carter is 9 and and an experienced swimmer in his first year on the Dolphins. We are looking forward to many more years, as he has done a great job so far. In practice every day he works as hard as he can, often competing to lead his lane. He is very engaged with his coaches and asks a lot of questions. His all-out approach to swimming led to a great performance this week. His night began by cutting a quarter second from his best 25 free time. He followed this by cutting almost 4 seconds from his 100 IM personal record, and then an amazing 9.59 seconds cut from his 50 free time. Ironman in your first year on the team -- great job Vann!

Week of June 8, 2025

Sophia Beltakis, 10, has been consistently excellent this season, and had a fantastic meet for the Dolphins this week.  She is early for practice every day and arrives with a smile and a great attitude. Her dedication paid off in a big way with three personal best times.  First she cut over 12 seconds in the 100 IM.  She followed this with close to a 1 second drop in the 50 free. She still wasn't done as she finished the meet with a new personal best by 8.75 seconds in the 50 fly, in the process wrapping up the Ironman Award for this season.  We're excited to see what she does at Divisionals.  Way to go Sophia!

William Dather is 11 and already a five year veteran of the Dolphin team.  He is peaking at just the right time this season. He has worked hard this summer to improve both his technique and his stamina, and his times are dropping as a result. This week he set three new personal best times, starting with an amazing 13.15 second drop in the 100 IM. He followed this by cutting over a half second in the 50 breast, his specialty.  Then he wrapped up the meet with a best time by almost 3 seconds in the 50 back. We are looking forward to continued excellence in our final dual meet and at Divisionals.  Amazing job William!

She is laser-focused on perfecting her technique and has been a cheerful friend to all in her age group.  She has swum 9 individual events this season so far and has remarkably accomplished personal best times in 8 of those swims.  This week she notched three of them, while clinching the Ironman Award for this season. She started with an incredible 18 second drop in the 100 IM.  Then she followed this by shaving .73 from her previous best in the 50 breaststroke, and finished her night with a 3.34 second time drop in the 25 butterfly. We can't wait to see what she'll do in the upcoming meets including Divisionals.  Awesome job, Amelia!

She has been showing all the signs of becoming a consistent lane leader in practice, and has recorded dominant swims for two straight meets now. In her first meet she notched personal records in all of her events, and followed that up with three more best times this week!  After cutting almost 2 seconds in the 25 free last week, she cut another .34 this week. Then she took over 3 seconds off in the 100 IM, and almost 4 seconds in the 50 free. Two great meets back to back have us looking forward to the great things she'll do for the rest of the season. Keep up the great attitude and effort, Chandler!

Greatness is in his future!  In his first two weeks of practice he hasn't missed a day and has been working hard on his technique in preparation for the swim meet to start next week. Thank you for a great season and a fun week of team bonding, Ella!

Caleb Carroll is 7 and destined to be a successful Dolphin swimmer for many years to come. He showcased his dedication by attending all of this week's optional practices, and even brought his mom to join him one day as an added bonus! This dedication was on display all season, as he set numerous personal best times, including two in his last dual meet before unfortunately becoming ill for Divisionals. We are glad he was able to bounce back and join us for this special week of holiday practices.  Great job Caleb!

She loves competing and dropping time and works really hard to do so, pushing herself to make every interval in practice no matter how challenging. All season she has been dropping time and this week was no exception. She is amazingly coachable! Throughout the season her personal best times have been dropping at every meet.  This week was special not only for a new personal best in the 25 free, but for a first ever race in the 100 IM. He made huge strides towards his goals this week, successfully completing the 25 breast and the 25 fly, both for the first time!  On top of that, he recorded a personal best in the 25 back by 0.23.  You've got this, Andrew!

Each of these athletes notched personal record times in all three of their individual events this week and last week.  They all have great attitudes, work incredibly hard, and are wonderful teammates.  And just for fun, they are also all from long-term Devenger families, with parents, aunts, uncles, siblings, and others also having been Dolphins. Brantley Poynter set new personal records in the 25 free, 50 free (almost 8 seconds!), and 25 fly this week.  Kenna Golob did the same in the 25 breast (12 seconds!), 50 free, and 25 fly (14.5 seconds!).  Addie Magee cut time in her 25 free, 50 free (13 seconds!), and 25 fly (6.5 seconds!).  We are glad you are keeping the honored family tradition of success going, Brantley, Kenna, and Addie!

He stays focused at every practice, giving no more than a nod to suggestions from his coach before doing exactly what was asked. He is expertly perfecting all of his strokes, and had an unbelievable performance in the Dolphin meet this week, shaving a minimum of 5.40 seconds in each of his individual events. That cut came in the 25 breaststroke. He followed that by dropping over 7 seconds from his personal record in the 50 free, and wrapped up with an 8.12 second drop in the 25 backstroke. We are excited to see what the rest of the season brings. Amazing job Reece!

Her hard work really paid off in our first meet of the season, as she recorded personal best times in all of her events. She started by dropping 2.5 seconds in the 25 free, then doubled that with a 5 second drop in the 25 back.  She finished up her special meet with another 5 second drop in the 25 butterfly. We are excited to watch her continue to improve this season.  Way to go Emma!

After dropping .3 from his personal best in the 25 free, he cut 2 seconds from his best in the 25 breast.  Those swims set the stage for an incredible 11 second drop in his 25 butterfly.  He is just getting started on what promised to be a special season.  Great job Alexander!

It is a double-dip for our second Dolphin of the week, as the Williams siblings took the pool by storm.  Georgia Williams, 11, turned in three personal bests, while her brother Jacob Williams, 8, matched her swim for swim. This was no surprise, as both have been hard workers and excellent teammates with great positive attitudes all season. Georgia cut 1.41 in the 50 free, 5.41 in the 100 IM, and 3.48 in the 50 back. Meanwhile, Jacob shaved 1.74 in the 25 free, 2.88 in butterfly, and rocked the 100 IM for the first time to earn our team's Ironman Award. Amazing job, Georgia and Jacob! She has seen just about everything at her young age, especially considering that her family has been a team institution for decades. This year has been a breakout season for her, as her dedication, attendance, and leadership have all been just about perfect. She has already notched quite a few personal best times this summer, and went three-for-three in an amazing performance this week. In each of the 50 free, 50 breaststroke, and 50 butterfly she cut time from her previous bests. Her hard work is paying off in a big way. Great job, Reagan!

Asher Anderson, 9, is new to the Dolphins and to the sport this year. It turns out he was made to be a swimmer, and a great teammate! He has been bonding with his friends in practice while meticulously learning all of the strokes, building up to this week's first attempt at the 100 IM. He nailed it, with an excellent swim! And he completed his terrific performance with a half-second drop in his personal best in the 25 free, and a nearly 4 second drop in the 50 free. We are so glad you're a Dolphin, Asher, and we are excited for your future!

Darby Rowley, 12, is a Devenger Dolphin veteran who has been quietly going about her business of improving for years now. She not only strives at practice every day to perfect her own technique, but devotes extra time to teaching younger swimmers in the Guppy program. Her devotion led to an amazing performance in our meet this week, starting with a personal best in the 100 IM, cutting 1.66 seconds from her previous record. She went on to cut over 5 seconds in the 100 free, but saved the best for last -- which was an astounding drop of 16.31 seconds in the 50 butterfly. Keep up the wonderful work, Darby!

Colin Mansolino, 12, has a lot of fun with his friends at practice and meets, but make no mistake -- he is there to work! Now in his second year with the Dolphins, he has established himself as unmatched in dedication and giving his all. He had a fantastic meet for us this week, notching three personal records, starting with a half-second cut in the 50 free, followed by an amazing 12 second drop in the 100 IM. His evening not done yet, he then took off a second from his 50 backstroke best. We are so glad you are on our team, Colin!

When she is not designing Devenger-themed board games with her friends Nora and Elisa, Lucy Osborn, 14, is having a breakthrough season in the pool. Her great attitude and ... unusual deckside fashion sense are a delight to have around the team every day. She takes every bit of advice seriously and gives her all to every set at every practice. On Thursday those qualities bore fruit, as she notched three new personal records -- cutting 4 seconds in the 50 free, 3.73 in the 50 breaststroke, and 3.58 in the 50 back. Her infectuous energy is catching, and will help pump up our team all season. Way to go Lucy!

Daniel Bolin is 8 and has a genuinely great time at every practice. He arrives early every session, and trains with the 9-10 age group. Nothing gets him down as he strives to improve his technique and endurance while also having a lot of fun with his friends in the lane. At this week's meet he was a star. First he cut 3-tenths of a second off of his personal best in the 25 free. Next was an amazing 9 second drop in the 50 free. He finished his evening (in the dark!) with his first-ever 25 butterfly. Fantastic job Daniel!

Week of May 29, 2023

Marion Daniel, 9, is taking the 9-10 age group by storm since she moved up this summer. Her cheerful smile and great attitude brightens up every practice, and she has been working very hard on all of her strokes. That hard work paid off in a big way in her first meet, as she recorded personal best times in all of her events. She began by dropping almost 6 whole seconds in the 25 free, and followed that up with another nearly 6 second drop in the 50 free. She finished off her outstanding night by cutting almost 1 second in her 25 backstroke. Awesome job, Marion!

Hayes Muir is 8 and working out with the 9-10 age group, often as one of the leaders in his lane. He is attentive to his coaches and eager to do whatever it takes to improve and drop time. He sure succeeded in a big way in his first meet of 2023! He started by shaving off almost 3 seconds from his personal best in the 25 free, and then cut almost 9 seconds in the 25 breast. Not finished, he then lowered his own best 25 backstroke time by 3.75 seconds. Great meet and great job, Hayes!

In the last dual meet she recorded 3 new personal best times, in the 50 free, 100 free, and 50 fly. Then she went on to drop even more time in the 100 free at Divisionals, and qualified for her first-ever Championships. Kristen Foster, 11, has long had the goal of earning Devenger's Ironman Award. But breaststroke has always been an obstacle. This season she has put in the extra work at practice and with private lessons, and her efforts have paid off. Two weeks ago she successfully recorded her first time in the 50 breast, and in our final dual meet she completed the IM, and thus the Ironman Award. She also recorded a personal best in the 50 back last week, and has been a fixture at practice this week as we prepare for Divisionals -- where more personal bests are sure to come. Congratulations Kristen!

Conner Gilstrap, 13, is not only new to the Dolphins, but to the sport of swimming. As one of the most difficult sports to begin as a teenager, Conner has done an amazing job.  He is a fixture at practice, quietly attempting everything that his coaches ask him to do, and successfully learning and improving all of his strokes throughout the season.  Now he is on to the business of dropping time -- which he did in both the 50 free and 50 back last week -- and preparing for his first Divisionals with perfect practice attendance all week. We're expecting a big weekend from Conner!

Finley and Maeve Conger, 10 and 6, have made excellent swimming a family affair this summer. While Maeve has been working very hard in her first year on the Dolphin team, Finley has been swimming up an age group with the 11-12s. Finley swam new best times in both the 25 breast and 25 back, while Maeve was tearing up the pool with a 2 second drop in the 25 free, 1.65 in the 25 back, and a remarkable 16 seconds in the 50 free.  Great things are in store for these two!

Wilson Sharp, 8, has broken out of the 8&under practice to train with the 9-10s, and is having his breakout moment in competition as well. All season he has been working hard and listening intently to his coaches and now, as if a switch has been turned on, all of his strokes are falling into place and his times are falling as a result. This week was an example, as he set 3 new personal best times for himself -- shaving almost a second in the 25 free, almost 6 seconds in the 25 breast, and another 3 seconds in the 25 back. We are all excited to see what he can do in Divisionals competition. Amazing job, Wilson!

Both are specialists in breaststroke, but have been working hard to perfect their technique on the other strokes as well. Together they had a great meet this week, with Wyatt recording two personal bests (in IM and breast) while completing the 50 fly for the first time, and Colt also getting two personal records (in breast and back) while completing the 100 IM for the first time. Excellent job, Wyatt and Colt!

And she wrapped up the day with a 25 butterfly time that was 42 seconds faster than her previous best. You read that right! She also swam breast on the first place medley relay. Congratulations, Anderson!

Kai Day has been steadily improving through his hard work ever since he joined the Dolphins. He improves in both technique and speed almost every time he swims. By paying close attention to detail and listening to his coaches, he has perfected all four strokes at 9 years old. His versatility was on display Thursday night, as he notched three new personal records: cutting 0.66 in his 25 free, almost 9 whole seconds in his 25 butterfly, and successfully completing the 25 breast -- a stroke he's been working hard on -- for the first time. Great job Kai!

Ana Ballinger is always up for a challenge. Though only 10 years old, she works out with the 11-12 age group at Devenger practice. And she is a year-round swimmer as well! She brings a cheerful, quiet enthusiasm to practice every day. Her work paid off this week with three new personal bests -- shaving almost a second in her 25 free, almost 2 seconds in her 50 free, and more than 2 seconds in her 25 backstroke. She does her best to improve every single week. Keep it up, Ana!

Bray McGinnis is a swimmer on the move, in more ways than one. He's 10 years old this summer, but he swims -- and plays water polo! -- with the older kids. He is always focused on improving, which includes dedicating himself to year-round swimming, and also fighting hard to lead his lane at practice every day. All that work brought him three new personal bests on Thursday, improving by .32 in the 25 free, 9 whole seconds in the 100 IM, and 5 and a half seconds in the 25 back. Way to go, Bray!

Ella Brown is 9 years old this summer, and has moved up to the 9-10 practice. She loves the challenge! Although it's difficult sometimes -- especially when the water is cold! -- she works incredibly hard to perfect all of her strokes and try to do whatever Coach asks of her. She is always cheerful, responding with a bright "Okay!" to every request. Her work paid off with a wonderful performance at the first meet on Friday, earning personal best times in all three of her events. She cut three seconds off of her 25 free time, 6.7 seconds off of her 50 free time, and 1.3 seconds from her 25 back. Great job Ella!

Grant Parks is 8 and in his second year on the Dolphins. He enjoys practice and always tries to do his best. At the meet on Friday he was excited to be on both the A medley and free relays. And he recorded all personal best times in his individual events! He improved by a second and a half in his 25 free, successfully swam the 50 free for the first time, and shaved 3 full seconds off of his 25 backstroke time. Congratulations Grant!
