SAIL Officials Training Dates

There are many volunteer opportunities at a meet. The jobs will vary slightly depending on if it is a home or away meet.

• Computer Operator**: Maintain computer listing of swimmers, input swimmer events, print final heat sheet.
• Stroke and Turn Judges**: Ensure that the rules related to the strokes designated for the event are being observed, ensure that turns and finishes are legal. If necessary, disqualify swimmers.
• Starter**: Direct swimmers to step on the blocks, instruct them as to the stroke and distance to be swam, direct them to “take your mark”, and give the signal to start.
• Referee**: Exercise full authority over all officials at a swim meet. Assign and instruct officials and decide all questions relating to the actual conduct of the meet.
• Clerk-Of-Course**: Organize swimmers in order for events.

**Requires training class and online certification. (This is a SAIL requirement and you will not be able to sign up for your volunteer position until the test is taken)

• Timers*: Operate a manual stopwatch to time events.
• Recording Timer*: Accurately record times from 3 timers in your lane
• Chief Timer*
• Ribbons*: Place labels on ribbons for each event and place in file.
• Runners*: Gather information from timers and deliver to records.

*Requires online certification. (This is a SAIL requirement and you will not be able to sign up for your volunteer position until the test is taken)

• Clerk-Of -Course Helpers: Assist with lining up swimmers
• Tent Parents: Promote positive attitude and order in the tent area, line swimmers up for each event and send them to Clerk of Course on time.
• Concessions: Prepare/grill and sell food and drinks at home meets
• Hospitality: Prepare & serve water to coaches, officials & volunteers.
• Snack Booth: Sell snacks and drinks at home meets.
• Set Up Crew: Clear pool deck and set up all necessary equipment & furniture for the swim meet.
