Kevin Treu is entering his 22nd year as head coach of the Devenger Dolphins. He and his wife Julie were residents of Devenger for 34 years where they raised four children, all of whom swam for the Dolphins. They recently relocated to Lyman, but remain committed to the team and the neighborhood. Coach Treu chaired the Department of Computer Science at Furman for 21.5 years, and 2026-27 will be his 35th and last year teaching. In 2026 he was honored with Furman's Meritorious Teaching Award. Growing up outside of Pittsburgh, PA, he swam for his high school team and his year-round team, but his favorite was his summer league team (nicknamed the "Farmers" -- yes, the Farmers!). As a distance swimmer for Allegheny College, he was a four-time All-American, and the first Gator athlete to be both athletic and academic All-American in the same year. While in grad school at the University of Virginia, he coached the Charlottesville High School girls and boys swim teams for six years, winning the state championship with the boys (and placing second with the girls) in 1992. After moving to Greenville later in 1992, he spent some time establishing his career at Furman before becoming the Devenger head coach. Since then he and his wonderful staff have always striven for the ideals of team unity and sportsmanship along with swimming success. Coach Treu is frequently engaged as an actor, director, and playwright in the local theater community. He regularly competes in open water swim races all over the country, and rings with the handbell choir at First Baptist Church in Greenville.
Kathryn was born in Greenville, and she grew up here in Devenger. She started swimming with the Dolphins when she was 7 years old, and has loved every bit of it. Her favorite events are 50 fly and 100 freestyle. Kathryn was also a member of the Eastside Eagles swim team throughout high school as a long-distance swimmer. She is currently a rising junior at Charleston Southern University as an Honors Student and is double majoring in Marketing along with Hospitality and Tourism. Along with swimming, she enjoys reading, going to the beach, and hanging out with friends and family. Kathryn is really looking forward to her second season of coaching and sharing her passion for swimming with others.
I started swimming for Devenger when I was 5 years old as a guppy. I fell in love with the sport and finally started to swim year-round at age 14. I started year-round swimming at Team Greenville and swam there for two years before switching to YSSC. I am currently competing on YSSC’s national team. I also swam for the Eastside Eagles from my sophomore year to my senior year. I was a part of three state championship teams and earned many other accomplishments during my time at Eastside. Outside of swim, I really enjoy hanging out with friends and family. I am very excited to coach for Devenger this season and look forward to a great summer!
