The Guppies is the preparatory team, where children learn how to become competitive swimmers. Assessments will be held on Monday, May 11 for all guppies. Guppies must be able to swim the width of the shallow end of the pool confidently and with minimal assistance. Coaches reserve the right for a swimmer to wait until the following year to become a Guppy. The Guppy season is shorter than the Dolphin season (5 weeks) and practice is shorter as well (30 minutes). The Guppy program is not for learning to swim. Children are expected to be able to swim already, including putting their faces in the water and not being afraid. The program is for learning to competitively swim. Instructors will work with the swimmers to learn the competitive strokes (primarily freestyle and backstroke) so that they can eventually transition to the Dolphin team.

Interested in helping with the Guppy program at Devenger?
We will need at least one Guppy mom, and one helper for the 2026 season. This role will mostly be to help facilitate the treats after each meet and end of season party.
