Devenger Dolphins Swimmer Code of Conduct

SWIMMER:

As a swimmer and member of the Devenger Swim Team, I will abide by the following code of conduct:

As a swimmer, I will:

1.Conduct myself with dignity, courtesy and respect for others and for the property of others.

2.Be on time for practice and meets, with equipment ready (goggles, cap, water bottle, etc.)

3.Comply with all team rules, as well as the SAIL Code of Ethics.

4.Be a conscientious and enthusiastic Splash Buddy, whether I am the older or younger swimmer.

5.Be focused and prepared at meets, knowing my events ahead of time, staying in the team area, and consulting with the coaches after every race.

6.Leave the Devenger team area in a neat and clean condition at the conclusion of each meet or practice session, as a matter of team pride and courtesy to meet hosts. This also applies to pool rest rooms,spectator areas, pool decks,etc.

7.Practice and teach good sportsmanship at all times.

8.Promote positive team spirit and morale at all times.

9.Offer congratulations and encouragement to my opponents.

10.Support my teammates at practice and at meets.

11.Follow the directions of the coaching staff, and of officials and parent volunteers during meets.

12.Respect the rights and space requirements of other individuals using the swimming facility.

Prohibited Behavior -- At no times will the following be accepted:

  • Disrespectful attitudes by any swimmer towards coaches, parents, teammates, officials, opponents, or anyone else, during meets or at practice.Trash talking or taunting is strictly forbidden at all times.All Dolphins will be gracious in victory and in defeat.
  • Use or possession of any illegal substance(i.e. alcohol, drugs, tobacco).
  • Destructive behavior, including hanging on lane lines, pulling on flags, etc.
  • Inappropriate or unruly behavior,including fighting, dunking,or striking another swimmer.
  • Inappropriate language(including swearing, racist, sexist, or other derogatory comments) or lying.
  • Stealing and vandalism.
  • Bullying, gossiping about, belittling, or isolating another swimmer. We are a team!
  • Interference with the efforts of another swimmer during practice or at any other time.

Consequences for Violation of the Code of Conduct:

This code shall be in force for all Devenger swimmers during practice,during swim meets,and at events sponsored by or in which the Devenger Swim Team participates. Disciplinary actions can range from, but are not limited to: reprimands, being sent home from practice or meets, suspension from competition, expulsion from the team (without refund of fees),or receiving any other disciplinary action that the coaching staff (in consultation with the Board) deems necessary if a member fails to adhere to the Code in part or in whole.

PARENT:

As a parent of the Devenger Swim Team,I will abide by the following code of conduct:

As a parent, I will:

1.Practice teamwork with all parents, swimmers and coaches by supporting and encouraging the team values of loyalty,commitment, sportsmanship, disciplined behavior, and hardwork.

2.Not coach or instruct the team or any swimmer at a practice or meets, except to reinforce the lessons of the coaches.

3.Arrange my family’s schedule in order to attend all scheduled meets (including Divisionals), and give appropriate advanced notice when this is not possible.

4.Demonstrate good sportsmanship by conducting myself in a manner that earns the respect of my child, other swimmers, parents,officials, and the coaches at meets and practices.

5.Maintain self-control at all times and know my role:

Swimmers–swim, Coaches–coach, Officials –officiate, Parents– parent.

6.Enjoy involvement with the Devenger Swim Team by supporting the swimmers,coaches, and other parents with positive communications and actions.

7.Maintain an open line of communication with the coaching staff and the Swim Team Board, sharing ideas, issues, concerns, etc. as they arise.

8.Direct all questions or concerns regarding decisions made by meet officials during meets to a member of our coaching staff only.

9.Understand that criticizing, name-calling, use of abusive language or gestures directed toward the coaches,officials,and/or any participating swimmer will not be permitted or tolerated.

10.Fully comply with the SAIL Code of Ethics (http://www.swimsail.org/documents/sail-ethics-liability-agreement.pdf).

Parent Responsibilities:

Parental cooperation and involvement is necessary for the Dolphins to function.Help is always needed in a variety of areas.Please volunteer your time willingly! Some specific responsibilities are:

1.Each family must volunteer time to help run the swim meets in which Devenger participates (home and away). Please be respectful of the volunteer coordinators and submit your volunteer form early.If you are not able to work an assigned job, it is your responsibility to find someone to work for you.

2.Volunteer your time for other functions of the team, including governance, maintenance, and social activities.

4.Consider a Swim Team committee or board position, especially if you have ideas/suggestions or a helpful skill.

4.Get involved!

I understand and agree to the above terms and conditions of the Devenger Swim Team in exchange for the privilege of my child(ren) to participate in the activities of the team.
